ROCK HILL, S.C.– Ridge View placed third overall at the Region III 4A championship on Oct. 5. Ridge View’s boys team also placed third, with the girls placing second.
Out of 22 events, Ridge View had top three finishes in nine. The boys medley relay (Alex Pierce, Joseph Williams, Layton Sutton, Joshua Williams) placed third in the race but ended with the victory after the first and second place teams were disqualified. The girls medley relay (Alicia Hubbard, Jessica Holas, Christa Joby, Ashley Hubbard) also placed third in the race, but landed in first place after the top two teams were disqualified in the results. The girls time of 2:13.58 also qualified them for the state meet.
Joseph Williams placed first in the 100 yard butterfly and second in the 100 yard backstroke. Alex Pierce placed second in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 yard freestyle. Ashley Hubbard placed third in the 100 yard butterfly and second in the 100 yard breastroke. Alicia Hubbard placed third in the 200 individual medley.
Ridge View concluded the season with their best record in over 10 years. The boys finished the season 11-3 and the girls 8-6. Combined, the team finished 10-4. Ridge View will also be taking six swimmers to state, doubling the number from last year: Joseph Williams, Christa Joby, Ashley Hubbard, Alicia Hubbard, McKayla Kenner, Jessica Holas.
The 4A State Championship Swim Meet will take place Oct. 12 at The Blatt on The University of South Carolina’s campus. The meet begins at 3:30 p.m.
