Ridge View cross country has had a busy month of competition!
They ran in the large Coaches Classic meet on Sept 8th, at Sandhills, with Varsity Captain Jada Mack and Carly McPherson competing against 500 other runners in the 1st race of the day!
Varsity teammate Keyani Turner also ran well in the Varsity Girls Championship division after, and all Varsity Boy’s divisions ran together, 486 finishing, next to beat the heat before remaining races were cancelled due to high heat indices.
Returning JR Quentin Joseph lead his team to the finish line in a season best of 19:53 despite the hot conditions. He was followed well by Tyler Gadson, who’s also looking to break 20, Colin Shaffer, Tyler Hardin, and Tybrell Thomas rounding out the Varsity finishes that grueling Saturday morning.
Last week they ran in Spring Valley’s meet on Wednesday, again on the Sandhills course, with Tyler Gadson leading the Varsity team in a time of 20:39, teammates Colin Shaffer, newcomer Joshua Robinson, Tybrell Thomas, and 7th grader Anderson Walker, barely edging out his SR Captain Brad Bitz for good finishes as well.
On the girls’ side newcomer Azaleya Gibson finished almost first for the team in her first race!
SR Captain Iesha Whittaker caught her with an excellent kick fueled by hearing Spring Valley fans, to finish together with her first race of the season also.
Both girls plan to run today in Great Falls meet this afternoon, Tues, Sept 25th, as well as the rest of the their 33 teammates on what we’ve heard is a ‘rugged, true cross country course’ to quote Coach Corral of Great Falls. This weekend, Varsity lettermen who’ve earned the qualifying points to travel overnight to the Low Country Invitational hope to PR again like they did on the nice John’s Island course last year at Mullet Hall. Coaches Kenison and Stack are enjoying working with these fine student athletes as they continue to bond as a unit and look forward to seeing them continue to excel.
