With 64.5 points the Ridge View Girls Track and Field Team has won the 2018 AAAA State Championship!
This caps an amazing season by the girls that saw them also win the Region Championship.
The girls advanced a total of 7 participating in 12 or 17 events while the boys advanced 5 in 4 events. The girls had a total of 64.5 point to become the 2018 4A State Champs, while the boys totaled 29 to finish 6th.
The girls began competition Friday evening with Elisabeth Whitmore in both the Shot Put and Discus and Mekayla Brown in the High Jump. Whitmore, with her final throw in the Shot, hit a mark of 36-03 to take 3rd. In the Discus Whitmore threw a mark of 103-00 to finish 8th. In the High Jump, Brown cleared a height of 4-10, to tie for 5th. On Saturday, the day started with the 4x100m relay. The relay team of LaNaya Martin, Alliyah Brooks, Aaliyah Morgan and Trinity Yates ran a season best of 47.87 for the Silver medal. In the 100m LaNaya Martin ran a personal best 12.11 to finish 2nd. Johnaida Eliscar competed in both the 200m and 400m placing 5th& 4th respectfully in both events with times of 25.77 (200m) and 57.19 (400m). Eliscar also competed in the Long Jump, reaching a mark of 17-07.5 to also finish 4th. Alliyah Brooks represented RV in the 100m Hurdles running a time of 15.45, to bring home the Bronze medal. Mekayla Brown was back on Saturday for the Triple Jump, reaching a mark of 37-04 for a 2nd place finish. To top off the day, the 4x400m relay of Morgan, Brooks, Martin and Eliscar ran a season best of 3:59.45 to bring home the Gold. With that win, Ridge View has won the last 4 of 5 4x400m State Championships.
The boys began the day with the 4x100m relay of Tyler Mitchell, Chylon Thomas, Jaheem Fordham and Devon Witherspoon. The four ran a time of 41.95 to take 2ndin the event. 30 minutes later Tyler Mitchell & Chylon Thomas were back on the track for the 100m, which they both finished 6th and 7th running 10.68 & 10.74. In the 200m Tyler Mitchell ran a time of 21.46 to become the 4A State Champion. Also competing for the Blazers was Marcus Reynolds in the Triple Jump. Reynolds jumped a personal best of 46-02.5 to finish 3rd in the event.

This State Championship marks the second for Ridge View this school year.
